In non-commercial environments, this would be an idea that creates value because it got implemented. In commercial environments, it would be the introduction of something new to the market, or if you will, an invention that is commercialized.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Innovation<\/a> barriers take many forms. The main reason they exist is that organizations are geared towards efficiency in their core business (exploitation engine) and lack a second operating system for innovation (exploration engine). Once innovators try to experiment their way through the system logic of the exploitation engine, they will get measured and evaluated by its standards too. As these are not geared towards innovation and <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/intrapreneurship\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"The act of behaving like\/running a business like an entrepreneur while working within a large organization.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">intrapreneurship<\/a> they will stifle and destroy any attempt to push non-incremental or even breakthrough innovation through the organization. This is why we often hear: <i>&ldquo;Innovation? In today&rsquo;s business context it often describes a team-based methodology to the creation of user-centric innovation concepts.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">design thinking<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/lean-startup\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"A methodology that supports startups in their search for a product or service that customers value, and a viable business model to go with it. Lean Startup emphasizes validated learning through the performance of hypothesis-driven experimentation with customers in short development cycles.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Lean Startup<\/a> <span class=\"zp-InText-zp-ID--2420821-U5BSQEUT--wp835 zp-InText-Citation loading\" rel=\"{ 'pages': 'np', 'items': '{2420821:U5BSQEUT}', 'format': '(%a%, %d%, %p%)', 'brackets': '', 'etal': '', 'separator': '', 'and': '' }\"><\/span>. You can also find &lsquo;good collections&rsquo; of innovation-related barriers in the form of visual card sets for workshops and strategy work <a href=\"https:\/\/roadblocks.lpklab.com\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/store.xplane.com\/products\/barriers-to-change-cards\">here<\/a>. If barriers are not removed in a top-down manner by leadership and through intentional <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/innovation-capability\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"The skills and knowledge required to bring innovation forward through the stages of discovery, incubation and acceleration, while managing their interfaces with the core organization with as little unproductive friction as possible.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">innovation capability<\/a> building, you&rsquo;ll often find innovators working around them bottom-up by developing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/janschmiedgen\/culture-hacking-subversive-and-intentional-innovation-capability-building-for-design-thinking\">&lsquo;cultural hacks&rsquo;<\/a>. Culture hacks are therefore good indicators of where your system stifles innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Innovation programs and vehicles are often institutionalized answers to barriers specific to the organization.
