In non-commercial environments, this would be an idea that creates value because it got implemented. In commercial environments, it would be the introduction of something new to the market, or if you will, an invention that is commercialized.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Innovation<\/a>&rsquo; as the ability of an organization to <i>&ldquo;identify new opportunities through the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/design-thinking\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Generally speaking, design thinking is a set of procedures and problem-solving behaviors of (industrial) designers and the mindset they bring along with. In today&rsquo;s business context it often describes a team-based methodology to the creation of user-centric innovation concepts.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">design thinking<\/a> [&hellip;]; the ability to quickly, and with fewer resources, develop, prototype, learn, validate, and improve business solutions [via <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/lean-startup\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"A methodology that supports startups in their search for a product or service that customers value, and a viable business model to go with it. Lean Startup emphasizes validated learning through the performance of hypothesis-driven experimentation with customers in short development cycles.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Lean Startup<\/a>]&rdquo;<\/i>; and finally the <i>&ldquo;ability to apply lean processes [[author&rsquo;s note: here: beyond just TQM, Six Sigma, etc.]], which enable teams to reduce waste, make incremental improvements, and eliminate the bureaucracy that often hinders innovation&rdquo;<\/i> <span class=\"zp-InText-zp-ID--2420821-E8L9JEKT--wp878 zp-InText-Citation loading\" rel=\"{ 'pages': 'np', 'items': '{2420821:E8L9JEKT}', 'format': '(%a%, %d%, %p%)', 'brackets': '', 'etal': '', 'separator': '', 'and': '' }\"><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Another influential proponent of the concept, <a href=\"https:\/\/steveblank.com\/2015\/06\/26\/lean-innovation-management-making-corporate-innovation-work\/\">Steve Blank<\/a>, says: <i>&ldquo;Lean <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/innovation-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"How an organization organizes for, allocates resources, supports and leads teams, and decides along the pathway from the initial inception of a business opportunity or idea until it has become a fully-fledged product, service, or business model so that it eventually will find a &raquo;happy home&laquo; in or outside the organization.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Innovation management<\/a> combines [the] Three Horizons of Innovation with the Lean <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/startup\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"A startup is a temporary organization used to search &#8232;for a repeatable and scalable business model. &mdash; Steve Blank\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Startup<\/a> to deliver an <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/ambidextrous-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"An organization, which demonstrably balances today&rsquo;s business demands (exploitation) whilst being adaptive to changes in the external environment by innovating towards new products, services, and business models, which break with old industry logic and transcend industry boundaries (exploration).\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Ambidextrous Organization<\/a>&rdquo; <\/i><span class=\"zp-InText-zp-ID--2420821-EBCAA9F3-_-2420821-IEF6BYR7--wp878 zp-InText-Citation loading\" rel=\"{ 'pages': 'np', 'items': '{2420821:EBCAA9F3},{2420821:IEF6BYR7}', 'format': '(%a%, %d%, %p%)', 'brackets': '', 'etal': '', 'separator': 'comma', 'and': '' }\"><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, this means that at a process level Lean Innovation is all about fast learning (cycles), while at an organizational level it is about the creation of an environment &mdash; or <a href=\"https:\/\/codify.in\/de\/glossary\/innovation-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"An innovation system, as understood at a company-level, designates the infrastructures for finding, developing, evaluating, and implementing new ideas and business models within an organization. It is the organization&rsquo;s &lsquo;operating system&rsquo; for innovation.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">innovation system<\/a> &mdash; that enables this way of working.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A combination of discovery, creation, and value delivery approaches in an organization\u2019s innovation process. The goal is to reduce \u2018waste\u2019 in the pipeline of new business exploration projects. To name but a few examples of waste in this context: untested customer\/problem\/value proposition or business model assumptions, insufficient validation of prototypes\/experiments with customers, or, even carrying forward political and zombie projects.
