Innovation Tourist

/ˌɪn.əˈveɪ.ʃən ˈtʊr.ɪst/

Low-performing (read: not intrinsically motivated) people from the core organization who are sent by their superiors into labs or innovation programs for several months, just ‘to get rid of them’ for a while.

We know, this is a crazy ‘term’. But the phenomenon occurs so frequently that we had to include it here. Even though innovation tourists hinder progress in the innovation teams, they themselves are rarely the problem. The problem is rather the set-up of the innovation strategy and system that allowed them ‘to travel’ in the first place.
