Moonlighting

/ˈmuːn.laɪ.t̬ɪŋ/

The act of working (often in secret) on an innovation (side) project without telling your employer or colleagues.

Performing innovation work without existing support structures unfortunately often takes the form of an extra job, which internal innovators even don’t communicate out of the fear that the employer might stop the latter or that colleagues would not understand it. This is the most unhealthy, yet not uncommon at all form of innovation we can find in organizations.
