A simple way to classify the types of innovation

In simple terms, there are different areas or subjects one can ‘innovate upon’: 1) on operations and internal processes; 2) on products and services; 3) on business model and strategy; and 4) on the organizational design and its management systems.

This, of course, is only one of the many possible classification models for the wide spectrum of types of innovation that exist. Each organization has to define for itself which types of innovation it wants to pursue, and how it will label them according to the existing mental models it needs to cater for (or wants to break).
